Level 3 Context and History of Visual Art

Why study Art history?

Since the dawn of humanity the history of our feelings and ideas have been captured in our symbolic expressions, our art. To study art history is to stucy the history of humanity itself. every 'thing' that makes up our human made world contributes to our knowledge of art and knowledge of ourselves. The ways in which these things or objects reflect and comment on social life is a key component of this course. In particular this course explores how objects of art shape the ways people interact and how they offer aesthetic pleasure and enhance our lives. Exploring our relationship with objects of the past better equips us with the tools to understand how we coomunicate visually today.
