About This Course

The online Level 2 Certificate in Photography is a three-stage, part time course designed to give students the necessary qualification to continue to study Photography at foundation level. This exciting course is led by practising photographers and is designed to give you the knowledge to take creative and confident photographs.  


Successful graduates earn an NCFE Level 2 qualification that is equivalent to achieving GCSE grades 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, or 4. This qualification is OFQUAL and accredited by NCFE.

Entry requirements

To enrol in our online Level 2 Photography course, students must meet the following criteria:


  • Be aged 10 years or over
  • Have a keen interest in photography and a strong desire to learn and succeed.
  • No formal qualifications required.

Our Level 2 Photography course is taken completely online, as such, students must have access to a strong internet connection as well as basic art materials to complete the course.

How it works

Level 2 Photography students are given access to their own virtual studio. Here, you will be able to upload portfolio work and access tutorials and guides. You will also receive your assessment grades through the virtual studio, as well as being able to discuss your feedback with a qualified tutor. Also give and receive feedback on other students’ artwork through their virtual studio profiles.


Assessment

You will receive feedback at the end of every unit as part of this course, with the option to arrange verbal feedback with one of our tutors.  Your final project will decide your final grade and will be assessed by an external exam board. This course is 100% coursework based..


Structure of the course

You will be supported through the following units:


3 core units:


  • Unit 01: Explore photographic equipment, techniques, materials and resources (4 credits)
  • Unit 02: Develop and adapt photographic ideas (4 credits)
  • Unit 03: Introduction to the photo imaging industry (4 credits)

7 optional units:


  • Unit 04: Darkroom processing and printing (8 credits)
  • Unit 05: Studio photography (8 credits)
  • Unit 06: Location photography (8 credits)
  • Unit 07: Commercial photography (8 credits)
  • Unit 08: Documentary photography (8 credits)
  • Unit 09: Experimental and alternative process photography (8 credits)
  • Unit 10: Presenting a portfolio of photographic images (8 credits)

You will develop a range of practical skills with regard to identifying key features and functionality of the camera, appropriate accessories for a particular genre of photographic application, working to a project brief and professional presentation of your portfolio.


Your personal tutor will also help you identify progression opportunities as they will get to know you and your work very well.
