Become a professional model maker in 3 steps - No A-Levels required!

The good news is that the Online College of Art and Design offer a Level 3 Foundation Diploma that can help you on your way – find out more about what it involves and take the first step towards the career you want.

What Does a Model Maker Do?

A professional model maker is someone that creates 3D models of concepts and designs that can be used in a range of different industries to provide prototypes when they are needed. Model makers are employed in areas that require support with designs, meaning that you can find yourself working in a wide range of different settings, producing models for a whole host of purposes.

What Skills and Education Does a Model Maker Need?

Professional model makers typically have completed an undergraduate degree in design. However, if you don’t have A-Levels then you can still get to university to study with an Online Level 3 Foundation Diploma from the OCAD, which is regulated by Ofqual.

The great thing about our course is that it is completely online and can be completed in less than half the time of traditional A-Levels, giving you the ability to progress quickly towards your new career.

In addition to the academic qualifications needed, a professional model maker needs to be able to use a wide range of different machinery, be skilled at the use of model making tools and be able to come up with and follow designs and concepts for the models they need to create. It is a highly skilled, hands-on role that offers lots of diverse opportunities.
